Glossary of the Fly's Lexicon

I received the following request from my favorite deceptively civilized brute, Lycan Thrope.

You have to post up a glossary of your lexicon. I know that drosophilia has something to do with flys but Sister Mary Bertha Joseph - drosophil, glaven, mirror - I need a scorecard!

So here we go with a few definitions.

Drosophil - "Drosophila" is Latin for "Fruit Fly." I probably should have used "Musca" when I made the site, but I use "drosophil" on a number of things because it works a bit better without the last letter.

Drosophemale - See "weregirl." Basically, any girl who makes an attempt to become the Fly's temporary or long-term companion.

Glaven - As opposed to using an actual swear word, or even using a standard non-expletive laden remark, I often substitute this word. Where did I get it? See here.

Mirror - The Mirror is the alias for my ex-girlfriend. I got the phrase from A Few Good Men. While Lance Corporal Dawson is standing his post, his "mirror," which is to say his Cuban counterpart, allegedly engages him. It's not shown, just referred to in dialogue. As the ex (who's British) was my foreign counterpart, I coined the phrase "The Mirror" to describe her. I coin similar phrases for most of my friends in an effort to preserve their (and, by extension my) identity.

Mullahs - Not actually a Fly-ism, a mullah is a religious leader of the Islamic faith. While the most prominent mullah was Mullah Mohammed Omar, former leader of Afghanistan, the plural "mullahs" generally describes the ultra-conservative clerics who rule Iran. The title of every single post I write about Iran addresses those wacky mullahs, particularly when they're up to their old tricks of suppressing free speech, supporting terrorism, and violating human rights.

Wankers - My affectionate pet name for my readers. It comes from the British English word "wank," which means "to engage in manual stimulation of one's own genitals." Thus, a "wanker" is one who engages in manual stimulation of one's own genitals, particularly if one is a male.

Any more, mate?
