Answering Skeptics
In response to this comment from Tim Birdnow, which went as follows:
First and foremost, I consider it necessary to note that anyone who calls the residents of the Middle East "Moslems" is either A) ignorant and antiquated or B) just plain racist. Right there, your credibility takes a hit.
Second, I'm sure you're highly learned and educated on the specifics of the Israeli withdrawal plan, so I invite you to post your copious knowledge of the subject on your blog. If you can prove that you have any clue what you're talking about, I may even link to it.
Third, do you have any clue how much different Mahmoud Abbas is from Yasser Arafat? Mahmoud Abbas has taken some real and tangible steps toward a truce and armistice. He got the folks in Hamas and Islamic Jihad to stop attacking Israel than Yasser Arafat ever did. Is he perfect? No, but he's also walking on egg shells with both sides.
Now, you may not like the way that President Bush is trying to encourage things, but based on your comments, I'm guessing that your distrust results more from a simplistic analysis of the political situation worldwide than it does from any real understanding of the bigger picture.
And a "vacuum of leadership" under President Bush? Are you serious? This is a man who's done more in the last six months to spread and promote freedom and Democracy in the Middle East than Jimmy Carter did in four years. This is the guy who's such a strong leader, that the Democrats are pulling every dirty trick they have up their sleeve in a futile attempt to stop his agenda for America from coming true, and failing at pretty much every turn. Your "vacuum of leadership" claims are completely and totally baseless.
Thank you, come again.
This is more of the same old promises of peace for land that we`ve been getting from the Palestinians. Israel has to give up something tangible in return for the promise of disarmament. How much would you like to wager that if Israel pulls out of those territories the Palestinians still won`t disarm the terrorist groups?
I agree with Aussiegirl; Bush can nolonger be counted on to deal with these things adequately. He wants quiet in Iraq, and he thinks that he can`t afford to anger Moslems. He is sadly mistaken-they`re already angry and appeasement has never worked.
We are suffering from a vacuum of leadership.
