Trying This Again

Okay, the post yesterday where I asked about gifts didn't exactly work the way I'd intended it. There were some good suggestions, but I didn't clarify well enough.

What kind of good, practical gifts do you tend to give? Beyond fun stuff like digital cameras or DVD players. Without consulting a registry, what do you give a couple who are getting married? What do you give a high school graduate to make sure he's well supplied for college? (The Staples/Office Max gift card suggestion was a great one, by the way.)

I mentioned in the post that I got several things that I'm still using five years later, such as a plastic tub full of bathroom stuff, or a rucksack/backpack, or an alarm clock.

And, for example, at every wedding I go to, the happy couple receives either A) extension cords, or B) a framed picture (I usually put in one of me, but also another that I've taken that's worthy of display). I also wrap them in a brown paper grocery bag, and duct tape.

These things having been established: try again, folks!
