Changing Your Lifestyle

I read through this entire article, and I'm curious. Are any of you living your lives differently in light of the hike in gas prices?

I've cut a few "frills" lately, but that has more to do with me being a recent college grad saving for the immediate future than anything else; I could go on a thousand dollar shopping spree at this point and still have more than two grand in the bank. I've avoided travel for the same reason.

Reading the blurbs from some of the folks quoted by CNN, I wonder if some of those folks weren't living beyond their means to begin with. If someone's kids can't have meat in their sandwiches because gas prices have gone up, my guess is that there are some poor financial decisions that contribute to the problem. There are a lot of middle and low income folks who are being hit especially hard, and I acknowledge that; but it's also common knowledge that people's choices tend to add to their financial success or failure, and it's important to acknowledge that as well.

If I were still in school, at this point I might consider taking the bus to College City, though in the end I'd probably keep driving. I have a bike, and I'm planning soon to get it outfitted to ride again (having not used it in years). I'm all about conservation and responsible use of resources. As I've said before, my guess is that prices are eventually going to decline, though maybe not to the lows we're accustomed to. I've noted the long term solutions that would go a long way toward reducing our reliance on petroleum in the first place.

For anyone who's interested, you can go to this website to keep tabs on energy prices. In the meantime, how have you changed the way you live your life in response to the price hike?
