Ray of Light
Well, I finally have some good news to report. I was paid on Tuesday, and the amount of money I received was substantially more (over $100) than I had expected. I took it up with the accountant; I figure that about a third of my paycheck probably ought to be going to taxes, and this month only fifteen percent was taken out. I questioned it, but was assured that it was correct. They said that I could bring in my W2 forms and get my tax returns generated.
Now, I'm not sure if I posted it here, but for some reason I have always owed more in taxes at the end of the tax year than had been paid throughout the year; I have never once balanced out, or had a tax refund. I was told back in November that I should expect to pay about $1100 this year in additional state and federal taxes. Needless to say, I was displeased, as this is more than I'd ever had to pay at the end of the year.
Well, the good news is that I took my W2 form in today, and the accountant went over his records and told me that I only owe $737 in additional taxes. Now, I'm still not pleased that those taxes weren't just taken out of my paycheck to begin with, but considering that I'd been budgeting $1100 as a standing tax debt, that extra $363 is basically found money. And how am I celebrating? By getting dinner from Hometown's best source for burgers, and by ordering Spooks Volume 3.
Oh... And drinks are on me.
