AMF: Write Better Dialogue
Yesterday was brutal, but fulfilling. Great night of sleep Wednesday night, early morning Thursday, decent pool workout, and I went to see Fireproof. Police Fan chickened out on me, so I saw it alone in a theater full of old married couples. The movie was pretty good, but it absolutely showed that it was produced by a local church - obviously a big local church, but a local church nonetheless. As I said, the story was great, but I would have made two major improvements.
Made the religious message a bit more subtle - I have no doubt that a lot of skeptical movie-goers were probably turned off, whereas "seed planting" could have been a bit more effective.
Hired a writer - the dialogue in this movie was completely awful, and I could have written better dialogue in a single day. I mean, it's Kirk Cameron we're talking about. They couldn't give Kirk Cameron a sentence with a contraction in it?
Just for the sake of a gratuitous video, here's the classic Collective Soul song December.
Alright, I have some links to post, but to be quite honest, all of it can wait. I'm going to get to bed, get some sleep, and hit life hard tomorrow. Have a great weekend, folks.
UPDATE: Okay, so the stock market's still tanking. Look at the economic flip-side: oil is below ninety dollars a barrel. The exchange rate is as good as, if not better than, what it was when I was in England more than four years ago - it's almost as good as it was when I was there five years ago. I wish I had some more money to plug into the market right now - hell, depending on how the next few days play out, I may do it anyway. This, too, shall pass. Don't freak out about it. Go about your business, don't take on any new credit, work hard, and be happy. Remember: we're all in this together.
