Shock Treatment

What don't you expect on your night off? Being called in at 02:20 to go to work. What net effect does this development have? It completely interrupts your sleep rhythm, worse than just about any other time.

I went to bed at around 23:30, and fell asleep somewhat quickly even though I'd gotten a full night of sleep Friday night and hadn't exerted myself much on my first bona fide day off in a month. Then the call came at 02:20. At that point we had one man out, up to Capital City, and a second incident to address here in town. I was home just about an hour later, and in bed at about 03:45... And didn't get to sleep until almost 05:00.

Though I hadn't set my alarm originally, when I went to bed the second time I set it for 08:45, and once it went off I reset it (somewhat standard) for half an hour later. So here I sit, minutes away from getting ready to go to work at 11:00. I'm at work until 15:00, and I won't be surprised if I come home to take a nap. My guess is that the disruption won't be remedied without a full night of sleep; unfortunately, one of my co-workers, who is usually on call this weekend, is leaving this morning to head back to his old stomping grounds in the Midwest, and that puts me on call.

Bollocks.

More news later, if I can keep my eyes open.
