Thursday News Update
It's been a while since I did one of these. Hopefully this will get me back in the swing of things.
An international body is meeting to discuss proper implementation of the Internet; actually, they want to take control of it from us knuckle-dragging, hegemonic Americans. I don't see that happening any time soon, but it's worth keeping an eye on.
The deportations and curfews imposed by the French appear to be working; I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude on this one. Somehow, I think that this is just a temporary pause. The French aren't well-known for actually solving their problems, so long as they can sweep them under the rug for a while. I don't for a second see them solving the issues that caused this violence, destruction, and chaos: poor immigration policies, the refusal of immigrants to assimilate, and extremism among immigrants and their children.
A "compromise" with Iran appears to be in the works, whereby they will be allowed to go part of the way in the enrichment process, but the final steps of uranium enrichment will occur in Russia. If someone would explain to me how this is at all acceptable, I'd very much appreciate it.
There's an oil crisis in Uzbekistan, where lousy government policy is preventing sufficient stockpiles of petroleum from being imported and exploited. Add this to the long list of reasons why I don't want a socialist or communist system implemented in Western nations.
A Boeing 777 has set a distance record for a passenger flight, making it from Hong Kong to London without stopping. Note that I said "Boeing 777", not "Airbus".
And finally, the United Nations has once again put the cart before the horse, issuing warnings to Iraq about its environment. Call me crazy, but I think that ridding the country of terrorists and other extremists should be a higher priority than environmentalism. I'd almost guarantee that there's more to fear from terrorists at this point than there is to fear from pollution.
Other than that, it looks like a relatively slow news day. More later; I'm downtown to do some errands, so I'd best get to that so that I can get some things accomplished today. Stay out of trouble, kids.
