My Loss, Your Gain
I'm not a big fan of Christmas for various philosophical reasons, but I still feel obligated at some point during the year to give gifts to close friends who I hold in high esteem; perhaps "obligated" is the wrong word, so replace it with "compelled". Today I went to Borders to purchase two books for such purposes. I then got back in my rig and drove downtown to the pottery shop where M@ and I go to channel our inner children, in order to trace a couple of tile sizes for the next time that he and I go to paint.
Upon returning to my car, I elected to stash the piece of cardboard with the tracings on them in the passenger side, which was away from traffic. I opened up the car door, hoping to get it closed again and get to the cross walk before the light turned; unfortunately, the plastic bag fell directly, and opening-side-down, into the gutter. Both books were water damaged; ironically, the cheap Gregorian chant CD that I'd purchased for myself was wrapped in plastic, and was thus unharmed.
Upon finishing my last errand downtown, a trip into an out-of-the-way silver shop, I drove directly back to Borders; after all, I have the money, and giving waterlogged books as gifts isn't exactly a capital way of doing things.
So, why am I saying this? Two reasons. First, I'm like The Wife, and I like to whine. Second, because my loss is your gain! I'm willing to part with the slightly imperfect books for a fraction of what I paid for them. If your name is not "M@" or "April", and you're interested in purchasing one or more books with minimal water damage (one is $8, the other is $6, which is half what I paid with them plus a dollar factored in for shipping), leave a message in the comments section or send me an E-Mail if you've got my address.
It's one of those occasions where the only thing you can do is laugh about the situation. I'm at least thankful that, at this point, I have the money to absorb the loss. Things could have been much worse, let me tell you.
On a side note, I'm also adding two items to the Stuff Fly Wants list, but I'll add them here instead of violating the sanctity of the 2600th post.
The Punisher - $19.98 (Amazon price $14.99)
The Island - $29.99 (Amazon price $15.98)
That is all. Thank you.
