Pushing Harder

I don't remember the last time I had this much motivation. I've made real, bona fide progress on making my flat presentable and acceptable to guests and whatnot. I figure that I've been here for a year, and I'm likely to be here for most of the next, so I may as well get the place looking as if someone lives here. That's going to mean ordering one more piece of furniture, hopefully this week if I can force myself to spend the money. If I can get Disc Golf Fan to come pick up a big item that I've been storing for a few months, then I'll be able to get the bedroom golden, and then I may think about moving the cot into the bedroom and starting to sleep there.

Since a tidy space is a more productive space, my goal is to turn the bedroom into my own personal S2 shop. That means maps on the walls, information systems at the ready, and pertinent literature within easy reach. I'm also, finally, organizing and tidying up my Massive Laundry PileĀ©, and hanging up the stuff that ought to be hung up. I never realized that I had so many shirts.

Anyway, between that, shopping for groceries and cleanup supplies, and seeing The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor last night, I didn't have time to write a proper post up. Even so, there are a few pieces of good news that ought to be passed on. Here's a list!

  • As evidenced in the Fly Report, the exchange rate is the best it's been in at least two years, and it appears to still be dropping.
  • As evidenced in the Fly Report, oil has also dropped off pretty sharply despite the doom and gloom predictions regarding Hurricane Gustav. That's due in part to the rise in the dollar - as the dollar rises in strength, oil gets cheaper, the economy strengthens, and the circle of economic life rises anew.
  • Despite a flaring situation in southern Afghanistan, the Afghans are taking over security responsibilities in and around Kabul (AFP, BBC); and in Iraq, not only are the Iraqis taking over security responsibilities in Anbar Province (with American support) (AFP, CNN, Guardian), but there's now reliable BlackBerry service in Baghdad. Quagmire my ass!
  • It's only sixty-five days until the release of Quantum of Solace, the new Bond flick. Will it be as good as Casino Royale, which I think I saw twice in one weekend when it came out? We'll see.

Alright, folks, I'd love to blather on for a while longer, but I have things to do. Just to make sure you're entertained, I'd like to share something that Triathlon Goddess shared with me this weekend: the Evolution of Dance.

    Check back tomorrow, folks!

UPDATE: Hell, one more thing. Cracked.com is quickly becoming one of my favorite websites. A while ago, they had a PhotoShop contest titled If Tattoos Actually Told the Truth, and it's worth your time to check it out. My favorite is number twelve.
