MJ Parody Week: Day Three

Happy Wednesday, folks - and happy Canada Day to Sarah Canuck! First, the news.

  • CNN: Killed Cleric's Son: Some suicide attacks OK - In case you didn't realize how screwed up Pakistan is, have a look at this article.
  • BBC: Rai star 'forced French abortion' - Ever heard of Cheb Mami? He did a song with Sting a few years back called "Desert Rose". Remember now? Yeah, apparently he's quite the wanker, and he's been arrested for it.
  • Times: Russian war games widen rift with Georgia - Russia is in the midst of repeating the war games it held last year, that basically masked staging and practice for their August invasion of Georgia. Needless to say, tensions are running high.
  • Times: American gun lobby seeks to revive Wild West - It's ill-informed, ignorant articles like this one that make me really, really loathe British "journalists".
  • Army Times: Troops in Afghanistan would get New Uniforms - 'Bout time. Despite the picture they show of the ACU "blending in", I can tell you from experience that it doesn't. The sooner they dump the ACU, the better for all concerned.
  • The Onion: Fancy Man Enjoys Tea - This comedy's well timed, given yesterday's article about the health benefits of drinking tea. I sent it to Mighty Mo immediately upon seeing it. She LOL'ed.

Today's Michael Jackson parody video is the forces of evil (Michael Jackson) fighting against the forces of good (KISS). I'm not a KISS fan - at all - but this video is absolutely fantastic.

Shamon, hee hee, shamon. Also, just for the entertainment value, check out the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for the Sega Genesis. You'll laugh, even if you're not into video games.

So, last week I got derailed on my attempt to be exceptionally productive. I'm trying to use this week to catch up. Here are some of the things I've been working on.

  • Most evenings, I've been reading passages from Goldfinger by Ian Fleming. Last night, I read two chapters, and I think I'm officially more than halfway through the book.
  • Studying Arabic. I'm doing great on the flash cards. More about that in a moment.
  • Exercise. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Last week was a bit of a bust, but this week is shaping up to be outstanding. More on that in a moment, too.
  • Working on the webpage project. I'm hoping to get some solid work done on that over the long weekend.
  • Cooking. I've finished eating the Shepherd's Pie, and next up will be the Irish Stew.

Okay, first, exercise. I've spoken on a number of occasions about the BUD/S Warning Order Workout. For months now, I've had my Phase I Fitness Plan up in the blog sidebar. (I updated it yesterday evening, by the way.) Assuming I can crank out some pushups and situps this week, and continue my current momentum, next week should be my first bona fide training week. So far this week, I've done two consecutive days of twenty-five minutes in the pool. This week's plan calls for four pool workouts and a yomp, the latter of which is scheduled for Thursday. I'm actually pretty stoked, because if I can keep this up for a couple of months, I should be in the best shape of my life. At the moment, I weigh... Uh, I weigh too much. If I can drop about fifteen or twenty pounds over the course of a couple of months, I'll be beyond thrilled, and I should be better prepared for some training that I've been wanting to take.

And, as for Arabic... Oh, praise Jesus, I found this. I showed the Crypto King, and he immediately insinuated that I'd soiled my trousers in ecstasy. He was about right. That amount of vocabulary could keep me making flash cards for months. In the mean time, as I've gone through the set that I've been working on for the last couple of weeks during the course of the last few days, I've decided that I'm about ready to drop them. Monday morning and all day Tuesday were flawless, I only missed one on Monday evening, and this morning I did the set of forty (or so) in reverse order from normal, so I'm pretty confident with them. Assuming that I'm successful during this evening's run-through, I'll start Leitnering per the Crypto King's recommendation on Thursday.

Alright, that's it for today. Stay tuned, folks, because there will be more tomorrow.
