Cracking Down

Sweet merciful glaven. For crying out glaven. Jack Mercer will tell me I'm wrong, but I think this Mahmoud Abbas guy is actually serious.

The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) has called for an end to attacks by militant groups against Israel.

In its strongest such appeal since the death of Yasser Arafat, the PLO's top body "demanded halting all military acts that harm our national interests".

The call came hours after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon gave his troops free rein to crack down on militants.

Tensions have soared since Palestinian suicide bombers killed six Israelis at a Gaza Strip crossing late on Thursday.

This is exactly the way it should work. It was a foregone conclusion that violence would follow the Palestinian elections, because that's what Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah... Well, yeah, all of the Palestinian terror groups, that's what they do. They blow up innocent women, children, pensioners, et cetera.

So what does Prime Minister Sharon do? He cancels his meeting with President Abbas until Abbas brings the Palestinian terror thugs under control, and tells the Israeli Defense Force: Do what you have to do. So what does President Abbas do? He tells the Palestinians to stop attacking Israel.

Now, one of two things can happen. Either A) the terrorist thugs will stop attacking, or B) the terrorist thugs will attack again. If the terrorist thugs attack again, then either C) Abbas will break some skulls and show the thugs that he means business, or D) break no skulls and show himself to be no different (or not much different) than Yasser Arafat.

Abbas' first few days in office are crucial, but if he keeps up this hard-line pro-peace, anti-terror stance up... Well, it could mean a complete shift in the geopolitical situation of the entire Middle East. This is huge.
