Continued Service

Not that he should have, but apparently Secretary Rumsfeld offered twice to resign over the Abu Ghraib scandal.

US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has revealed he twice offered to resign during a crisis last year over prisoner abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib jail.

In a CNN interview, Mr Rumsfeld said he was ready to take responsibility for the scandal over pictures showing US troops and staff mistreating prisoners.

But he said each time he offered to go, President Bush asked him to stay on.

This is yet another reason why Specialist Graner and all of his little buddies should have gotten far harsher sentences. Like him or not, Secretary Rumsfeld is a hardass, and he's precisely the kind of guy we need right now at the helm of the Department of Defense. For him to be put in a position whereby he was ready to resign on account of some little twits fooling around with non-terrorists is an absolute travesty.
