Blast from the Past

I don't know if any of you wankers are old to remember Bulletin Board Systems (BBS), the predecessors of the Internet. Before most people had access to the Internet, you could use your computer's modem to dial into a remote computer that worked like... Well, it was like a cross between a blog and one of those game sites. They ran games, message boards, file download areas, and any number of different things. To be quite honest with you, I miss them; they were always a lot of fun, but the Internet killed them.

Anyway, I was looking around tonight, and the game that was probably the most popular, Legend of the Red Dragon by Seth Able Robinson, is now available online for play, just like it used to work on the old bulletin boards. You can go check it out here. Outstanding!

I also remember BBS. Before AOL I was a member of Imagination Network. I made quite a few friends on there and then we all went to AOL. I loved the BBSs and INN. I miss the simple days of playing games with friends and posting to boards. I guess that is why I like blogs so much. They remind me of the old days.

Holy sweet glaven! Someone else from "back then"!

We only had one or two in the area that had more than one line, most of them were one-liners, and I made the rounds every day. There were some pretty good systems, and I served as Co-SysOp on at least a couple of them.
