Sci Fi Channel Strikes Again

Okay, so I look forward to Battlestar Galactica all week. All week. So far, the only episode I've "missed" was last week. I was out with MeShelle and Crazy Lisa, but caught the rerun at 02:00... 01:00? Anyway, it was late.

I watched part of Gladiator tonight, as I noted a couple of posts ago. At 23:00 I turned to the Sci Fi Channel, thinking that Galactica was already starting. For some reason, they were playing Stargate: Atlantis instead. Okay, I can wait an hour, right? So I watched until the end of Gladiator, then switched over to see the last couple minutes of Stargate. Right? Right!?

Well, some English major out there (sorry Manda) has got the schedule screwed up, so I've officially missed the beginning of Galactica. I tuned in to find Boomer puking (morning sickness?), and then Commander Adama having some heart to heart with Apollo. So I'm looking at the TV Guide Channel now, and I'll be damned if those idiots didn't shift the schedule behind by half an hour. If you're going to advertise a Friday night primetime schedule, it's generally a good idea to stick to that schedule. So now I'm going to start getting ready for bed, and set my alarm clock for 01:30 so that I can watch it again. It's worth the effort (the show's outstanding), but it's pretty damn frustrating to have to be up at 01:30 to watch a television show that's supposed to start at 22:00, just because some idiot can't schedule reliably.

It's a perfect end to a perfect week, right? So I get to spend my Saturday writing an overdue research paper on diversity and listening to the Quran online, and I have to do it on a punctuated sleep cycle.

I guess I'll have that Guinness after all. G'night, wankers.

Thanks for the update, Harley! I woke up with my alarm at 01:58, and once I figured why in glaven's name I'd set it, I had an uncharacteristic moment of clarity and decided to tape it, then go immediately back to bed; now I'm watching it at just about 09:00.

And for what it's worth, I found out at about 23:28 what the culprit was: a special ninety minute episode of Stargate. I guess they can get away with that.

I still can't get into BG. No idea why. I am a huge Sci Fi fan but I just can't. I also don't like Stargate: Atlantis. I did enjoy the 90 minutes SG1 though.

The one episode of Stargate Atlantis I saw was pretty much bollocks. I haven't been able to get into SG-1; I think I probably would have liked it early on, but part of the beauty of the original film was that it was humans overcoming superior technology with original thinking and an assault rifle. My biggest beef with SG-1 is that I think it's lost something by having starships and alien Air Force personnel and such.

Galactica, though, I dig. With this new prophecy element, you've got an increasingly complex storyline with a lot of different angles, and so far it's been very well played.

If you ask me, Galactica's better than Babylon 5 was. Babylon 5 had a lot of potential, but the characters tended to be either underdeveloped or two-dimensional. There were a couple of characters who were on there who, I swear, had like five lines in one season, even though they were in the friggin' opening credits.
