Today's Agenda

It's Monday. Math class or not, today is the first day of my semi-graduated life. I start working today, more part time than I do during the academic year. From about 13:00 until about 15:45, I'll be out back of the office, reorganizing the workshop where I've spent many an hour during the last few summers, and then washing and sweeping out cars.

The high school kid who's been doing my job for the last year was almost completely worthless, so the bar's been set pretty low. As an employee, I'm a tough act to follow, but they're used to having this kid for the last year. It's almost like having a clean slate.

So what's on the Fly's agenda for today, as he buzzes around town?

  • Depositing a graduation check
  • Figuring out how much I have, and how much I need
  • Establishing a schedule and some to-do lists for this and next week
  • God willing, motivating myself to run
  • Writing
  • Blogging

I spent some quality time last night chatting with Gus and Saint Jen. Saint Jen's sick, and Gus has come down with at least some version of it. They were a pretty miserable lot, which in some sick way made me feel better about my situation. Not drastically better, but marginally. It's a start.

Ladies and gentlemen, here's my advice to you for today. You've got two choices in life. You can let life happen to you, and react, or you can take life by the balls and force it to do your bidding. Allow me to illustrate.

Any attack will be met with a swift and certain response.
    - Senator John Kerry to the Democratic National Convention

    Compared to...

We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism.
    - President George W. Bush, 2001

Two men, two philosophies. The first philosophy is one of defense, of reacting to the enemy, of allowing the enemy to operate and attack, and striking back. The second philosophy is proactive and offensive, putting the enemy into a dilemma, forcing the enemy to run, denying the enemy his havens and supplies, forcing the enemy to react.

The choice is up to you, ladies and gentlemen. As for me, even if I'm angry and disagreeable, I intend to make life react to me, and not vice versa.

    More later.
