Anti-Blogger Fatwa

Link via Right Thinking, check this out.

A Fatwah has been issued against me by a known terror group. Corresponding groups have responded indicating that I will be eliminated shortly.

They have my name, address, telephone numbers, and the names and addresses of my friends and loved ones.

The FBI has been unable to tell me of any actionable threat, however they beleive that the threat is real. They have warned me to take the standard anti-terrorist precautions, suitable for Bogota or South Africa not Phoenix.

They are also contacting the people on the list that was distributed, including my mother, my stepfather and step siblings, and the people who worked on Team Infidel with me.

The thousands of hits I've been recieving from the JP domains with blocked referred information are anonymizer proxies used to hide the identities of those viewing my site.

As my resume is public information, my employers or former employers may also be targeted.
There is concern that staff at my former employers has fed them my personal and private information as well.

The FBI agents I spoke with clearly indicated that althoguh they had nothing direct or specific to an individual (and thus couldnt jsutify protective custody), they are very seriously concerned about this threat.

That's not specifically why I maintain my anonymity, but it's another good reason for it. There are all sorts of whack jobs on the Internet who can't be trusted with any information whatsoever. I trust most of the regular commentators here; hell, if I ever find a woman who will marry me, The Wife and Longhorn Mike will probably be at the wedding. It's the people who don't comment that worry me.

Most of you won't remember, but I actually linked to this guy's post back in June when it happened, and refrained from commenting for several reasons; generally, though I can understand the sentiment, I thought the episode was in poor taste. Say what you will about the Quran, it's still considered to be a sacred text by hundreds of millions of people. I've read the Quran, and I've read most of the Book of Mormon, and I was neither impressed nor convinced by both; even so, it's a case of what goes around comes around. Do I want Muslims using Bibles as target practice? No. Do I think that it serves any purpose to aggravate Muslims, whether they be the few Islamofascist terrorists, or the many regular folks? No. Kill the terrorists, and leave the rest alone.

And now I've looked at the film clips that "Anarchangel" has linked to the actual images. What a moron.

So, let's review:

  • "Anarchangel" is an ultra-right wing lunatic who, though he shouldn't be murdered by Islamofascist terrorists, should be confined to whatever backwater he resides in, mostly for his own safety.
  • The Quran is a book revered as sacred by millions, which is better left alone or read academically by those who don't buy into Islam.
  • Anonymity is an important thing for bloggers, particularly bloggers who make aggressive political statements.

    Thus saith the Fly.
