Epilogue on Arabic Girl
I'm going to wind up the blogging for the night, but I wanted to let everyone know that Arabic Girl was absent for the third straight day. Here's the way the course runs down.
The series lasts for eight weeks, and that encompasses three courses, four credits apiece. The class meets for three hours, Monday through Friday. The school year at [Generic University] is composed of four quarters (vice trimesters), each composed of ten weeks of class and one week of finals, and separated by anywhere from one to three weeks. Basically, you miss one day of class, you've essentially missed a week's worth of material.
Today was our tenth day of class. Annoying Girl missed the first, fourth, eighth, ninth, and tenth days of class. Basically, in the eleven week matrix, she's missed about five weeks worth of material. She would have had a difficult time recovering from the loss of Wednesday's material; Wednesday and Thursday would have been nearly impossible. Three days in a row? We've basically written her off. To paraphrase a military designation, she's Missing, Presumed (Academically Dead).
I had a few words about it with my Marine buddies, and we all agree: the cons outweigh the pros, with respect to having her stay in the class. She stresses everyone out, because we can see that she's stressing the prof out. The prof's one of the best profs any of us have had or will ever have, and Annoying Girl had almost taken the other students past the breaking point. You get a good prof, who's proud to be an American citizen, who grades you on participation and effort, who's patient and lenient, you become loyal to that prof, and you refuse to stand by while she graciously puts up with the rude behavior of one non-hacker.
I hope y'all enjoyed it while it lasted.
