Sovereignty's Decline

I was over at Poosh's site, and saw a link to this post by Aaron over at Free Will, chronicling the further destruction of historic, successful, proud Scottish infantry units at the hands of the Blair government. Go read his post to find out just how asinine the changes are.

I've been meaning to write a long article along the lines of A Semi-Valiant Effort about the drastic budget cuts to Britain's military. I'm going to set a goal of doing that later in the week, possibly on Thursday or Friday, so if you're interested in the future military structure of Europe, stay tuned.

In a nutshell, though, the whole thing's extremely disgraceful, and mirrors the decline of the Roman military. It is not an intelligent move to eliminate proud units that display an overwhelming degree of esprit de corps and tactical prowess as part of some administrative restructuring, particularly when you fall through on promises you've made to these units regarding the retention of their symbols. The Brits are probably our strongest allies in World War IV, and their decision to decommission entire units, eliminate funding for brand new warships, and reduce their fighting overall fighting strength at the height of operational tempo is... Well, I'll say it outright. It's Clintonesque in its stupidity.
