The Epic of Bo Pi: Chapter II

Bo Pi
1 My beauty exceeds the beauty of a rose; the lilies envy my brilliance and fairness.

Drosophilus
2 Like a lily among thorns is my darling among other maidens; she is precious beyond measure.

Bo Pi
3 Drosophilus' adoration for me is like a mighty oak, immovable in the wind. His strength and endurance delights me, and he provides unparalleled shelter.
4 I require that he delight in me, more than he delights in a great feast; his adoration of me must be unparalleled and transparent, undeniable.
5 Drosophilus is my strength, my champion; when I am faint and weary, he refreshes me.
6 With his left arm he defends me, with his right arm he comforts me.
7 Gathered maidens, I compel you with all my strength: beware of love, tempt it not; fear and respect it, for its power is terrific.
8 Achtung, Drosophilus! Behold! Drosophilus approaches, unstoppable, immutable.
9 Drosophilus is like a mighty animal. Look! There he stands, observing and awaiting, eternally fascinated with my beauty, remembering my every word.
10 Drosophilus told me, "Come, adorable one, beautiful one, and join me.
11 Behold! Spring has arrived; water has fallen from the sky, and the land is lush and green.
12 The ground blossoms, and the blooms rejoice in your beauty; let us celebrate, and rejoice in your brilliance, beloved.
13 The blossoms of the trees, the roses and lilies, are unfit to adorn your face; their aroma profanes your own. Join me, adored one. Let me delight in your presence."

Drosophilus
14 Beloved, hidden far from me, reveal yourself, and speak with your enchanting voice; your voice is as intoxicating as fine wine, your face is brilliant beyond description.
15 Hunt down and drive away the wraiths that haunt us; drive away the ghosts that seek to separate us, to keep us apart.

Bo Pi
16 Drosophilus is mine, and he adores me without limit; he must seek none other.
17 Until the dawn, endure in your labors; press on throughout the night, and allow nothing to break your will. Delight in me, Drosophilus, as you delight in sweet wild honey.
