Failures, Unite!

What's the solution when the French unilaterally invade a former colony and spark a flare-up in a dormant civil war? Send in the United Nations. What's the U.N. solution when they can't restore order? Beg for more troops.

The UN peacekeeping mission in Ivory Coast has asked for reinforcements in the light of the deteriorating situation in the country.

It says it needs an additional 1,000 troops to continue to maintain order in the West African country.

It has 6,250 soldiers in place but they were unable to prevent renewed clashes of a dormant civil war last month.

Let me get this straight. The situation is deteriorating, they need an additional thousand troops to continue to maintain order, but they've been unable to prevent renewed clashes.

Could someone please remind me why we're supposed to want United Nations support in Iraq? By the way, if you're unfamiliar with the details of the recent disaster in Cote D'Ivoire, check out some of the coverage over at Free Will. Some of the images are very telling.
