Verdict

News outlets are reporting that a verdict has been reached in the Michael Jackson molestation trial. I'm going to delay heading to work to see if I can get a post up on it as it happens. If I remember right, there's supposed to be an audio feed. Right now the Jackson entourage is headed to the court room in four black Suburbans, having just left Neverland Ranch a couple of minutes ago. I'll post more as it develops.

UPDATE: Please, if you're reading this, go ahead and post your stance on the issue. Do you think Jackson's guilty? Do you think he'll be found guilty?

The expected time of the verdict has been pushed back to 20:45 GMT, probably at least partially on account of the Jackson entourage's late departure from Neverland.

Right now they've got a live video feed on CNN of the crowd outside the courthouse, and there's somebody with a French flag, and they're waving it around. It's got some words embroidered on it, but I can't make out what they are. There's been talk of Jackson fleeing to France like Roman Polanski. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen, but if he's actually with the entourage right now, I think it's increasingly unlikely that something like that will happen. The analysts on the teevee are saying that if he's found guilty of any of the serious charges, he'll likely be cuffed on the spot and given speedy transportation to the county jail to await sentencing.

Apparently Jackson can never return to Neverland if he's convicted, something about registered sex offenders being unable to come within a certain distance from a school or park or something. I didn't hear all of the specifics, but the key bit of information is that if convicted, he can never go back.

UPDATE: Michael Jackson's entourage has just arrived at the courthouse. They're currently exiting their vehicles. I don't see Jackson yet, he must not be in the first vehicle... Waiting... Yeah, there he is.

UPDATE: He looks scared. The verdict is probably only a few minutes away. Apparently they've got an ambulance at the courthouse in case there's some sort of medical issue with Jackson. He's about to go through the metal detector. Waiting... Janet Jackson is there, they're showing her on the video feed. It's just a couple of minutes away.

UPDATE: Here he comes. He looks like a broken, miserable man. He's being frisked, he looks pretty shocked, and there he heads into the courtroom with his attorney, Thomas Mesereau (sp?).

UPDATE: The door to the courtroom is closed, the jury should be making their way in about now. Apparently the microphone in the courtroom is currently silent, but will go on shortly. It's interesting that the folks in the news room don't know how the audio hookup is supposed to work, but I have faith that it'll work and we'll be able to listen in.

My guess is that you don't care much about my continuing coverage by now, so I'm going to close this post out and do a single post outlining the verdict. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: The jury has just been seated. I'll let you know what happens.
