Best Invite Ever

If President Bush accepts this invitation, he should totally make Big Mo take him to see the Roman ruins at Leptis Magna.

Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has invited US President George W Bush to visit Libya, a top US senator says.

Senator Richard Lugar was in Libya as the US and Tripoli begin to rebuild ties after decades of hostility.

The US began to ease sanctions on Libya last year after Col Gaddafi abandoned a nuclear weapons programme and paid compensation for the Lockerbie bombing.

Speaking as Mr Lugar's two-day visit ended, Col Gaddafi's son called for a process of national reconciliation.

Mr Lugar is the highest-ranking US official to visit Libya in decades.

He said the US was working towards opening an embassy in Libya, 24 years after it withdrew its ambassador.

The US opened a liaison office - a lower-level diplomatic post - in Tripoli in 2004.

I've been very interested for the past few years in going to Libya to check out the Roman ruins, and I'm totally stoked that I may be able to do so without wrangling with the Belgians (bottom of category).

Seriously, though, seeing as how Tony Blair set the stage for such a visit with his own visit last year, I think it would be excellent for President Bush to show favor to Qaddafi (yeah, I know, there are like, two hundred different ways to spell the guy's name) by visiting Libya. Qaddafi is doing his part to normalize relations with the West, and Libya is showing real progress toward becoming a serious, legitimate international player.

Did I mention that I want to visit Leptis Magna?
