Bono's Got It

Ready for me to be pissed off at Fox News? Well, here's your opportunity to learn that my disdain for the mainstream media is on an equal opportunity basis.

Fox News has a great article about Bono and his activism. The money shot follows:

The way Bono has gone about his activism is both admirable and inspirational. He's done it with respect for others' points of views, and with a reasonable voice that forces people to listen.

"You don't have to agree on everything to get on with somebody," he said of his relationship with President Bush. "You just have to agree on one thing."

I couldn't agree more; what separates Bono from Michael Moore, or George Soros, or Cindy Sheehan, or the rest of the usual suspects is that with Bono, it's not about maligning the opponent. Bono has a goal, and he sticks to it without resorting to empty rhetoric and insults. If someone is willing to help him, no matter what their political bent is, he accepts them with open arms; if not, then he respectfully disagrees, and the two remain friends. That's the way activism is supposed to work, folks.

So, why am I bent out of shape? Because Mike Straka, the writer of the piece, made a rookie mistake. He said that this song was from this album... Well, apparently they've caught the mistake and changed it since I started writing this. At any rate, it was a rookie mistake; beyond being a U2 devotee, I'm also an experienced journalist, and I know for a fact that fact-checking like that, particularly when it concerns the biggest band in the world, is pretty damn easy.

So, there you go.
