When Governments Attack

Do you think that the PATRIOT Act is oppressive? Do you think that it erodes civil liberties? Do you think that it's completely unprecedented, and gives far too much power to the government? Well, whether you do or not, you'll wet your pants in fear when you read this article about Britain's latest anti-terror legislation. I'm about as conservative as they come when it comes to defending the safety of the citizenry, but the way to do that is to place real, tangible restrictions on immigration and extremism. You have to be proactive, not reactive, when dealing with terrorists, and I'm not sure that being able to hold individuals for three months without charges has anything to do with the threat it's designed for.
