The Abolition of Man
I've just finished reading The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis. I highly recommend it. It's fairly weighty stuff, and it takes some effort to reach full comprehension, but I found it to be well worth my time. Among other things, it makes the following points:
Science can not be an end to itself; knowledge for the sake of knowledge is an empty pursuit.
By "conquering" nature, we are actually being conquered by nature.
There is objective truth, real virtue, and absolute morality, and those who claim otherwise will trap themselves in a paradox.
My next read will probably be Octopussy and The Living Daylights by Ian Fleming. It's a collection of four short stories, actually, and includes "007 in New York" and "Property of a Lady". I'm mainly reading it because it's only one hundred twenty eight pages. At some point, I'll be back in the mindset to tackle the remaining portion (a little more than half) of The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien.
What about you folks? Reading anything interesting lately?
