Big Fat Tuesday
Wow. Today was pretty eventful. Since I love the sight of my own text, I'm going to note the important parts.
I wound up staying at Mormon Buddha's apartment last night until about midnight, which put me home around 24:30, and in bed around 01:15. My alarm was set for 08:15, but I woke up at 07:30 and got out of bed at 07:50. Needless to say, I'm a bit groggy at this point, and unless I'm given an extremely good reason, tonight will be a relatively early one.
Remember the professor who thought he could get me a job with NASA History? I met with him today to get some more suggestions, and just to check in and catch up. He's a pretty good bloke, and though we only spent about half an hour talking, it was time well spent.
I went to check in on Professor Augustus and his wife. She's had a couple of good days lately, but she's really in pretty rough shape. This process is a tough one for me to watch, because I know that the end of the story is a release for both Mrs. Augustus and the family; unfortunately, God's not taking her on my time, he's waiting. It's a lesson in patience and trust, and lessons like that are always hard to keep learning.
I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to get a greatest hits disc of Johnny Cash's best stuff. Considering my lucrative weekend, and the fact that this was payday, I bought The Essential Johnny Cash. In addition to having one of my favorite U2 songs, The Wanderer, as the final track on the second disc, it's got all of Cash's greatest songs: Fulsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, Cry Cry Cry, I Walk The Line, et cetera, et cetera. The first disc in particular is perfect for the situation I'm in right now, so I'm pretty stoked about it. I've already listened to the entire two-disc set.
I got my paycheck, and even with the purchases that haven't been withdrawn from my account, I've got around $3500 in my account right now. In a couple of days I'll have to pay off some monthly debts: car insurance, phone bill, that sort of thing. I'm also in the market for a good study guide for the Foreign Service Officer Exam; unfortunately, both of the study guides available on Amazon have extremely low ratings from buyers, so I may have to buck up and buy another one at full price from Border's.
All in all, today was a pretty good day, and I've learned to appreciate those a bit more in the past few months. Profound? Not particularly; but I'll take it.
