The Epic of Bo Pi: Chapter III
CHAPTER 3
Bo Pi
1 All night long I sought my champion, Drosophilus; I sought him to defend me, to champion my cause and proclaim my wonder.
2 I will seek him throughout the land; I will seek my champion, Drosophilus. I will seek him, that he might shout my accolades.
3 Drosophilus' allies met me in my journey. "Have you seen your ally, my champion?"
4 They had scarcely passed when I found Drosophilus, my champion. I held him captive, and refused to free him until he had delighted me with songs of my greatness.
5 Gathered maidens, I compel you with all my strength: beware of love, tempt it not; fear and respect it, for its power is terrific.
6 What great hero approaches from the wilderness, perfumed with righteousness, and enduring in dedication and perseverence for my cause?
7 Behold, Drosophilus' war chariot, and his entourage of noble brethren, the finest in the land,
8 each man armed and secured, educated in my wonder by my champion, every man prepared to join Drosophilus in my defense.
9 Drosophilus crafted his chariot for me; he made it of fine, strong timber.
10 Rather than compose its elements of silver and gold, and decorate it with Tyrian purple, he neglected to adorn it; for silver and gold profane and insult my beauty. My brilliance is the only finery my champion requires; I am the only jewel he values.
11 Show yourselves, maidens, and behold me; Drosophilus rejoices in me, for my wonder inspires and delights him.
