Stand and Deliver

It looks like the Afghan military has stepped up to the challenge. What does the Fly have to say about this? If Afghans can be trained to do this, and to do it successfully, we should have a lot of hope for the Iraqi military.

Senator Kerry claimed that he had a plan (as he did for pretty much everything) to train the Iraqi military faster than President Bush could. As a university senior and a student of naval science I can tell you, some training can't be accelerated. Concepts and skills are built upon other concepts and skills. It's like a pyramid; some things just take time to master. It also takes certain types of people, who aren't just constructed overnight like an automobile. A big factor in this is combat veterans, or technicians with some experience.

Afghans are stepping up to the challenge of defending their newfound liberty and democracy. It's a series of baby steps, but the last few months should show us that Afghanistan is in good shape, and getting stronger. Iraqi security forces are gaining experience, they're gaining confidence, and they will succeed.
