Quality Time at the Gym
Warning: Ladies, skip the second bullet if you're easily offended.
I've mentioned in the last couple of weeks that I've begun working out regularly. I slacked yesterday (federal holiday and all), but I was back at it today. Twenty-two minutes in the pool, up from twenty last week. There are two things worth noting.
In the last couple of weeks, I have lost about five pounds. A couple of weeks ago, when I started weighing myself, I was nearly 205 pounds. Today when I weighed myself prior to hitting the pool, I was at 201.2, and after the workout I was at 200.8 pounds. The rest of the story goes with the next bullet...
My bladder normally holds about three-fifths of a pound of urine, though it can hold more when absolutely necessary. I didn't have to go very bad, so I didn't. After weighing myself the first time post-pool, I thought, "I still haven't made a head call." So, in my towel and flip-flops, I went to the urinal and did my duty. After that, I went and weighed myself again, and the scale said 200.4 pounds. As my bladder was not full to bursting, I'm guessing that it was between half and two thirds full.
I'm sure you all wanted to know.
Anyway, so far I'm having a decent birthday. I'm enjoying my days post-graduation; I still have all the papers to do, and I'll get some work done on them tomorrow. Aside from that, I'm enjoying the Arabic course, I'm enjoying my time at the gym, and I'm even enjoying doing some grunt work.
Today in Arabic we learned some really crucial stuff about the formation of the Arabic language, spurred by a question I asked relating to the words "he writes" ("kataba") and "book" ("kitab"). We also spent a good twenty minutes talking about Khat, a drug used in the Middle East. Colonel Schoutter actually included it as part of our final project writeup. It was interesting to learn more about it from someone who's actually seen it and experienced its influence on society in person; she isn't a fan. Save for a couple of rude outbursts from Annoying Girl, class was great today.
The gym was good. Nothing special, just eleven minutes of front crawl, eleven minutes of breast stroke (down one, back the other).
I washed two cars at work. That's a full day right there, particularly in eighty degree weather. I probably lost a bit of water weight, though I kept drinking from my Nalgene bottle. It's a good job that allows you to douse yourself with a hose while you work.
I'm off shortly to have pizza and pints with my buddy Matt. More when I get home.
UPDATE Oh, and one more thing. One of my favorite Simpsons episodes ever, New Kids on the Blecch, was on tonight. What a great birthday present.
