Super Fly Day

Today is my twenty-third birthday. Leave your adulations and praise in the comments. Unfortunately, today will be like many other birthdays I've had in the last few years: class, plus a trip to the gym, plus work, will leave me exhausted by the time I'm home, so my birthday likely consists of very little in the way of celebration; maybe I'll have a pint.

Yesterday was my favorite holiday, Independence Day. Here are the highlights.

  • The annual Lions Club Lumberjack Breakfast - I went with my dad and my brother at about 06:30. The pancakes and eggs were pretty good, the sausage was pretty overcooked. We happened to run into my uncle and cousin; a regular family reunion!
  • I finished Moonraker. It was a helluva lot better than Casino Royale and Live and Let Die, so my faith in Ian Fleming's ability to write has finally been established. I think that from here I'll make a concerted attempt this week to finish 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which I left unfinished last Autumn, and then tackle The Fellowship of the Ring, per your votes.
  • I catalogued at least ninety-seven, possibly ninety-nine percent of my books. The final count (so far, excluding a handful that are isolated in my closet) is three hundred ninety-one; speaking of Casino Royale, I couldn't find it, and searched somewhat frantically for a while until finally giving up; I figured out that the Dark Horse Sandal Man borrowed it months ago, and I've not gotten it back. That's okay, though, because I'm still borrowing a book (and a DVD, actually) of his.
  • Yesterday Spike TV kicked off a month of Bond films. (I know, "Obsessed much?", bite me.) I was excited, until I figured out that the three movies they had lined up were Never Say Never Again (the pseudo-Bond film made by Connery in the early '80's; pseudo-Bond film, total suckfest), License to Kill (Timothy Dalton was the worst James Bond ever, though he seems like a good bloke in the interviews I've seen), and View to a Kill, Roger Moore's (very appropriately) final Bond film. Needless to say, I watched the King of the Hill marathon instead.

So, what did y'all do for Independence Day? And don't forget to leave your best wishes in the comments. I expect gifts from all of you, and it's £100.00 minimum.

    Thus Saith the Fly.
