Voyage of the Nahang

Iran has built a submarine. For a long time, I wanted to be an officer on U.S. Navy submarines, so I have some thoughts.

First, their attempt at deterrence is probably moot. American fast attack and British fleet submarines are more advanced than anything the Iranians could put together on their own, even if they did it by reverse-engineering Russian gear. An Iranian sub, even a quiet diesel sub, probably wouldn't be able to launch a torpedo before a Mark 48 ADCAP torpedo turned its crew into fish bait.

Second, you couldn't pay me enough to get me to set foot on an Iranian submarine destined for dive, and I'm not just saying that as an American patriot; I'm saying that as someone who values my own life. After having read about their in-house aircraft, I can honestly say that I would fear for my life if I were to board a submarine that had a "Made in Persia" sticker on it.

Then again, I don't read Farsi, so I might not realize it in the first place. Still...
