The Problem of Karl Rove
By now, most of you who follow politics are familiar with this story. In the interest of being fair and balanced, I'll also link to CNN and the BBC.
I want you to keep in mind, folks, who the loudest voices denouncing Karl Rove (and calling for his ouster) are. They're people like Howard Dean, Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator John Kerry, Senator Chuck Schumer, and the like. Howard Dean isn't a hundredth the political strategist that Karl Rove is, and he wants his competition gone. Senator Clinton is a far-left Democrat, and she wants him gone. Senator Kerry, in his infinite wisdom, credits Karl Rove with a large bit of the credit for cementing his defeat, and he wants him gone.
Is this really about Karl Rove having supposedly leaked information? Absolutely not. Rove didn't reveal this particular agent's name; in addition, this particular agent hasn't been undercover in eight years. Translation? Rove didn't out an undercover agent; and it sounds like Rove's comments were likely taken out of context and overblown.
Bottom line, I think it's a witch hunt, and I very much hope that the Democrats will fail, as they have continually failed at most of the other nonsensical charges and schemes they've dreamed up in recent years. As far as I'm concerned, if this is handled correctly by the Bush Administration, it could be a major political boon for conservatives: another public example of sour grapes and attempted legal chicanery by Democrats who just can't seem to get their house in order. I suppose we'll see, won't we?
(And as much as I hate to admit it, Lee has put up several posts worth reading on this subject, so go check them out if you have a few minutes.)
