Slightly Awry

Today I was compelled to go to campus to run three errands. First, I went to the chair of the department to have him sign a petition to remove one of the incompletes from my transcript; it will be replaced with an A, if I'm not mistaken. The second errand was to the registrar's office to turn in the petition. The third errand was to the student involvement center to turn in a key to one of the rooms at the campus radio station, which I had hoped to retain possession of as a souvenir. Once these tasks were completed, since I had a while to wait until my next engagement, I went to the coffee shop in the basement of the library and got myself a cup of tea.

From there, I went to Professor Augustus' house for lunch. As always, the conversation was good, if a bit negative; I've been a somewhat negative person (what my hero Ned Flanders would probably call a "Negative Nelly") for a while, as you all know. We discussed my job prospects, cynicism versus sentimentality, a few of the works of Lewis, and various other topics. I always value my time with him, and lament that I'll soon be unable to visit him as frequently as I'm able to now.

Following that, I went home and watched the second half of that U2 DVD. It got a bit better, but I still think that it's not up to the standard that they set on the last tour. I will, however, concede to Sarah Canuck the following point: the performance of "40" was outstanding. If any of you are unfamiliar with this song, you can learn more here and here.

I also got distracted earlier from writing this, which is to say that this is a distraction from submitting resumes to companies, which I may work on tomorrow. More about that shortly. What distracted me? You guess it: James Bond stuff. During a conversation with a friend who reads the blog, but who has never commented, I remarked with shock and outrage upon learning that I have to wait almost a whole year at this point for the next Bond film to come out. I then figured out that I could read exactly one of Ian Fleming's Bond novels per month, and still wouldn't have enough to keep me sufficiently Bondified until the movie came out. These are the ones I haven't read yet:

  • Doctor No
  • Goldfinger
  • Diamonds Are Forever
  • From Russia With Love
  • For Your Eyes Only
  • Thunderball
  • On Her Majesty's Secret Service
  • The Spy Who Loved Me
  • You Only Live Twice
  • The Man With the Golden Gun

And I've already read (or will soon finish):

  • Casino Royale
  • Live And Let Die
  • Moonraker
  • Octopussy and The Living Daylights

The other big news, if you can call it big, is that my plans for the next two days have been shifted considerably. Due to some miscommunication, Father Time and I have been compelled to postpone our excursion until Friday; I'll take my camera and try to get some pictures of my thumb, Father Time's back, and a couple of car tyres. In the meantime, tomorrow I've been called in to work; normally I'd be miffed about it, but since my original plans were eliminated anyway, I may as well make some money. Then, in the afternoon I'll meet up with M@ and either paint pottery again, or just spend some good old fashioned guy time together, drinking pints, tea, or milkshakes, or whatever. That leaves the excursion with Father Time on Friday, followed by work, and possibly the Socratic Society Christmas party.

And tonight? Well, I should have been posting resumes, but it can wait 'til tomorrow. When I finish here at work, I may just head to the tea house again and do some reading and/or writing. My life is a veritable tantrum of stimulating and death-defying activities.
