Thursday News Explosion Extravagantastic Bonanza Blitzkrieg Thingamajigger!
This will be brief - yesterday was productive, but not from a standpoint of writing, so I needed to put in some time on either an article or one of the novels. Here are a few articles worth noting.
I've posted a couple of links lately about the state of Kim Jong Il's health. A "recent" photo of him inspecting troops, in true Stalinist fashion, was apparently a botched forgery attempt. If it weren't for the sake of global security, it would be hilarious. And, in a semi-related story, remember that Syrian installation, possibly a DPRK-assisted nuclear site, that the Israelis bombed in 2007? Someone's reporting that they found traces of Uranium there. (BBC, Guardian)
Speaking of Israelis, Holocaust survivors and other Jewish leaders are pissed at the Mormons for their failure to halt proxy baptisms for Holocaust victims. I'm glad I'm not the only one who takes issue with Mormon theology.
A couple of months ago, I reported that Crazy Uncle Muammar had decided to distribute Libya's oil wealth to the Libyan people. Well, he's apparently said the Arabic equivalent of "you can't stop me!" to the General People's Congress and the General People's Committee, though I have a hard time believing that they were actually whining about it.
Last week, I posted an article about Algerian term limits. The Algerian parliament has indeed abolished presidential term limits, allowing Abdelaziz Bouteflika to run for a third term.
And finally, there's an interesting article and video from CNN about the surge in gun sales following Barack Obama's election. CNN states Obama's desire to permanently reinstate the assault weapons ban, and his desire to outlaw concealed carry as perfectly reasonable and mainstream policies - which they're not, nor are they in line with the Constitution or the historical context of the Second Amendment. Oh, yeah, and one more thing. The link to the CNN article? It reads: http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/11/11/obama.gun.sales/index.html. It would appear that some CNN editor thought that this story belonged in the "CRIME" section, instead of the "POLITICS" section - as if cherishing a sacred, God-given, Constitutional right of self defense and self determination is a crime. It's things like this that make me loathe CNN.
Alright, thinks to do, things to do. Check back tomorrow for more.
UPDATE: Could someone please explain to me how a YouTube search for "quantum of solace trailer" yields "Worst porn scene ever - The Beginning" as its second result after the trailer itself? All sorts of mirror versions of the trailer, and then, right there in the middle, "Worst porn scene ever - The Beginning". Unbelievable.
